MINING UNIONS ANXIOUS
THE GOVERNMENT INTENTION

A climax has almost been reached in the coal hold-up in New South ales. The State Government’s intention to take over several .Maitland pits and work them on a basis of slightly reduced wages is causing -Mining Unions tho utmost concern, lt- is realised there will be an appeal for volunteer labour if the Unionists hold aloof.
A meeting of Mining Unions executive was hold to-dav whereat theie was talk of a general, strike, if the Government insisted on a wage reduction. It was eventually decided to await the result of the conference holding at the week-end between the Federal Treasurer (.Mr Theodore), the Attorney-General (Mr Brennan), the Assistant-Minister (Mr Beasley) and llie minors officials. Premier Bavin announced in the Assembly to-day that the Government had made tip its mind about the whole matter hut would delay action until after Mr Theodore’s week-end conference.
