[United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.]
(Received this day at 9.40 a.m.) LONDON, November 15
It is understood if wireless telephony to Australia is shortly introduced it will be limited to a speaking box at Sydney. Jt is. explained that the present apparatus being used in Sydney allows excess! of waves of current to run back along tbe outgoing circuit to England, creating a “ singing,” which prevents switching to subscribers’ telephones or connection with Melbourne. T.o overcome this, the British Telephone Department is building a duplicate of its valve switch, which, operated by a spenkers voice shuts the return circuit and prevents “singing.” It will be at least four months before the apparatus is delivered a‘t Sydney. It is understood British controllers hesitated to agree to the imperfect service, but yielded to Australia’s desires.
