HEAVY LOSSES
AUCKLAND, November 12
Losses incurred by buses operated by tlie Auckland Transport Board amount to £44,000 a year, according to a report furnished to the Board by the manager, Mr A. E. Ford. . The report reveals that during two years and seven months, ended March 31st, 1927, the tram and bus undertaking as a whole lost £316,000, this deficit occurring at the time when pri-vately-owned buses were running into tlie City, prior to regulation. Tlie figures do not include £54.671 paid for buses taken over in terms of the Motor Omnibus Act, 1926. The return showed that a loss of £53,000 occurred during the year ended March 31st, ,1925, £159,000 during the year ended March 31st, 1926, and £149,000 during seven months of the following financial year. The report states that over half the present annual loss will he saved when certain bus services are eliminated, as they will lie upon completion of tramways extensions provided for in the £526,000 loan authorisation.
