HINKLER
LECTURE ON FLIGHT,
(Received this day at 1.0 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 13
Hinkler lectured on his flight- to Australia at Westminster School in aid of King Edwards Hospital fund. After describing the flight which incidentally solved many hitherto insoluble aircraft problems, he emphasised the practical value of his own design of undercarriage as demonstrated on the flight. Master Sempill, who presided, said speaking from long practical knowledge of aviation in Britain said he was compelled to admit that Australia, in proportion to population had led the whole Empire in skilfulness and enterprise in the expansion of air services, in meeting the needs of even the most remote communities. This marvellous development was largely duo to the impetus given -Uv such pioneers as Ross Smith, . Keith Smith, Kingston! Smith, and Hinkler, notably the last named whose solo flight to Australia was one of the greatest achievements in the history of the world’s aviation.
