USE OF DUPLICATE BUTTS. The winner of the first prize of £2O; 0 in the Auckland Aero Club’s art union, Mrs E. Stone, has lately been employed as a housekeeper ai Pahiatua. She is an old resident of the district and has brought up ' large family. She obtained the ticket through the Napier Agency. It has been published that Ain Stone forwarded the hutt of the 1 idiot direct to Auckland and that otherwise it might have been too late for the drawing. The returning of the duplicate butt had actually no influence on the participation .of the ticket in the draw. Officials who controlled the art union state thaf the checking-up shows that every ticket sold participated in the ballot. The duplicate butts were provided simply to give the purchaser a means of satisfying himself that the original butts had been returned. They serv ed no .useful purpose so far as Die internal working of the Art Union was concerned.

The checks and records kept by the staff engaged for the art union wor° independent of the return of any or all of the duplicates.
