WHAT WE CANNOT DO
We live in a marvellous age. We build an airship that can girdle the globe in twenty days. We master with wings the high roads of the air. AVe whisper and we are heard around the world. We have abolished yellow fever and other scourges of the race. We have the vitamin tribe by the tail. AVe harness waterfalls and streams and send, the silent power of electricity to the places where work is to be done. AVe build mechanical horses for those who travel the roads and supply one to almost every American family. AA'e have discovered a fourth dimension and can prove what the human mind cannot conceive. AVe measure light, speed and sound space. AVe produce a chemical gas which will destroy the life of a city in an hour. All this and more we can do. But to abolish poverty, to remove want from the aged, to furnish labour always for those willing to be employ-ed--these are problems too great for this great age.— N.Y.
