COAL MINERS’ BALLOT

MAJORITY FAVOUR STRIKE.

GREY-MOUTH, November 12

Grey Valley Union, which includes Dobson and Wallsend mines at to-day’s voting were practically unanimous in favour of a strike to support Blackball.

The State Mines Union decided not to strike, but work will not be resumed to-morrow, pending learning the result of voting by other Coast Unions. It is reported locally that Denniston, -Millerton, and Stockton miners supported the strike proposal. It is now expected that the State miners will fall in line with the other Unions.

BULLER DECISION.

IN FAVOUR OF STRIKE

WESTPORT, November 12

At a meeting of Denniston Miners’ Union this morning it was unanimously decided to support Blackball Union in the protest against the employment of non-union labour. • The protest to take the (orm of a strike.

Millerton take similar action, and. although it is not official, it is reported Stockton came to a similar decision, At the present time all the results of the ballot are not yet in, hut it is anticipated all will be in favour of a strike.

A Union official stated this afternoon that the strike at present affects only the West Coast, but if a settlement is not reached the strike may involve. the whole industry. The strike is to take effect immediately.
