MURCHISON ROAD
TWELVE MILES TO CLEAR.
260 MEN ENGAGED,

WELLINGTON. Nov. 11
(Enquiries made as to the position of (die restoration of earthquake damage in the Buller Gorge, on the main highway •between Nelson and 'Westport, elicited the information that the Alaiu Highways Board has 230 men employed on this road at the present time. . A member of the Board, who recently' inspected the road was able to travel from the western side as far as 1 veil by car. and from the eastern side as far as Newton Flat, so that there is now only about twelve miles of tho road not negotiable by ear. The Main Highways Board has every hope that before next winter tlm road will be negotiable for traffic, although, of course, it will he some considerable time before it can be brought back to the state of excellence and stability, which existed before tho ’quake
