Cabinet has offered the Chief C'ommissionership of New South Wales railways to W. J. Cleary, who now holds a High position in a city brewery.
SYDNEY STRIKE. SYDNEY, November 8. A strike has occurred on Sydney harbour bridge works,, owing to the dismissal of cranemen. Two hundred employees have ceased work but so fat the men employed in the workshop where fabricating is being done are unaffected. MIGRATION SCHEME. SYDNEY, Nov. 8. As a party to the thirty-four million sterling migration agreement, the State Government intends to ask the Prime Minister not to make move to suspend the scheme until it has been consulted. CRIMINAL ESCAPES. MELBOURNE, Nov. 8. Known us a desperate criminal and gaol breaker, John Williams, eluded warders and escaped over the wall of the Ballarat gaol. Leonard Brown, who essayed- to es'ciipe- with him was captured, when climbing^ over -the wall. Willi’’liras has escaped on several previous occasions. The police aire scouring densely wooded country for the escapee.

There was grave concern among officers of defences forces and officers of other ranks of the Royal Australian Air Force, when it became known that Cabinet had decided to abolish the Air Board and bring in defence'administration under control of the Army Council.
MINER BLOWN TO PIECES. MELBOURNE, November 9. When his pick struck an unexploded charge at Korong Vale quarry, William Kendall was blown to pieces and other men nearby narrowly escaped. The explosions shook buildings in the Town four miles away.
