DATES FOR PAYING TAXES

WELLINGTON, November 4

At a meeting of the Executive Council to-day, an Order-in-Council was passed fixing the date when the ordinary Land Tax shall be payable, as Thursday, November 21st, 1929, and the special land tax under section three of the Land and Income Tax (Annual' Act for 1929, on Friday, February 28th, 1930. Payment of the income tax is fixed for February 10th, 1930.

BAND CONTEST ENTRIES

DUNEDIN, Nov. 4

Excellent entries, in all grades have come forward for the Dominion Band Contest, to be held here from SFebruary 22nd. to March Ist., 1930. Mr Cnris Smith (Auckland) has been appointed judge of the Selections and Quickstep, and Air A. Sclmnok (Christchurch) of the Solos. The contest for the Solos and Selections will be held in the new Town Hall, and the Quickstep and Pipe Band contest on the Garisbvook Ground, The . Committee already has the. arrangements well for ward.

A COLLISION

WELLINGTON, Nov. 5

A tram and motor van came into collision in a sharp hand on Wadestown line last night,., The .latter was badly smashed: and . the ■ tram knocked about to a less extent. ..The driver of the van was cut over the legs, but uo one else was imured.

OBITUARY

CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 5

The death is announced from London of Dr Gerald Harper, aged 81, a brother of George Harper, of Christchurch.

Dr Harper was the ninth son of the late Bishop Harper, the first Bishop ol Christchurch. He had practised in London for nearly fifty years.
