THREE MILE TENNIS CLUB

OFFICIAL OPENING

The Three Mile ,Tennis Club held its official opening on Wednesday Just. A number of members-from various Clubs eame bringing with them their friends, but the ,-inclement weather somewhat marred the attendance of intending visitors, Mr B. Ward, County Chairman for the district, on behalf of the residents officially opened the court and also congratulated the local people on their energetic abilities on the formation of the court, saying it was one of the ;finest ~on the Coast. Mrs SlieiTiff, wik'i of the chairman, then cut tlie ribbon and Air Ward thus declared the. court duly. open. Air Turley' in {Ranking the Club on behalf of the Cob den Tennis Club aUi.d members 'congratulated Three,Aide on its splendid court and hoped at some future date to challenge their Club and their abilities at tennis. Air Gutlirey, who has taken much interest in the court from start to finish, returned thanks on behalf of Airs Guthrey and the Hokitika Lawn Tennis Club and also congratulated the residents on their fine effort, and wished them many hours of sport. Air Sherriff then returned thanks on behalf of, the the various speakers for their congratulations and good wishes and for the visitors who attended. . An adjournment was then made for I a delicious afternoon tea (proyided by the ladies), interspersed by musical items. 1' The proceedings then terminated with the singing of Auld. Ikvi|g Syne and God Save -the King, one and all voting it the most enjoyable afternoon held for many years. In. the evening a grand ball was held, all tripping to the light fantastic, the music being supplied by the Black Hand Orchestra.
