FARMER CONVICTED

OF ASSAULTING NEPHEW. (By Telegraph—Press Association). INVERCARGILL, Nov. 2. The Police Court was crowded this morning when a case against Arthur Robert Blondel, farmer, of Waimatua, who was charged with assaulting his nephew, George Henry fweedale, aged 101 years, was continued before Mr W. H. Woodward. The accused, who was represented by Air Gordon Read, had previously pleaded not guilty. The case was adjourned last week in order that the evidence might be taken of the Child Welfare Officer with regard to an interview between him and a younger brother of the complainant. At the original hearing the Magistrate intimated that he would be willing to bear any further evidence that would enable him to determine who was telling the truth. After the hearing of fur•thor evidence, the Magistrate convicted the accused, and imposed a fine of ten pounds.
