G OVERNME-NT IDEA. (Australian Press Association) SYDNEY, Nov. 1. A compulsory conference of the parties to the coal dispute is being next Wednesday, under the chairmanship of Mr Hibhle, J.P., who has had long experience of coal disputes, and who has figured in u number of strike settlements. Another development to-day is the announcement that- the Bavin Government may take over a number of coalmines in the event of Air Hibble’s activities proving abortive, and that the miners will be reopened; but whether by the union or by free labour iis not yet disclosed.

Air Bavin stated that a number of industries were in a parlous condition, and the mines must be opened very soon to avert the disaster which threatened them.
