DEPUTATION TO MINISTERS
REQUESTS CONCEDED

WELLINGTON, October 31
The Executive of the United Fire Brigade’s Association interviewed members of the Cabinet to-day. The deputation included Superintendent P. Deere (Grcymoutli), Captain C. E. Gilbert, Mr C. A. Osborne, of Onehunga, Mr T. I. Watts, of Newmarket, and Superintendent Tyler, of Gore.
After the interviews the Executive stated that it had reached a definite understanding with the Department of Internal Affairs as to the status of toe Fire -Brigades’ Association. The Minister of Transport, M,r Veitch, gave a sympathetic hearing to their ,representations in relation to the licensing, of fire vehicles. The deputation also made a request to Hon Mr Atmore, Minister of Education, that fire prevention should be taught in the schools. '!h-s was received equally sympathetica 11 v. Mr Atmore) stated he would do everything possible to carry out th*' Association’s wishes in the latter inspect. The suggested fire-fighting drill based on a set of lessons compiled by Mr C. Malcolm, of Pae.roa, and will be incorporated in the school syllabus.
