COM M 1 TIED FOll EXTRAD.I TION .; (Jiv Telegraph—Press Association>. AUCKLAND, October 30. An order for tKe committal to prison for extradition, of John* Grey, alleged to be A. 13. Crouch, the perpetrator of a forgery involving fifty thousand pounds, in Texas, was made by Magistrate Hunt this afternoon. Sheriff Bigliam, of Bell County, Texas, said that he knew Crouch. That was the accused Grey. He knew him for 25 years* in the same county, where both were raised. Witness had authority from : the President of the United States to take accused back to Texas. Detective-Sergeant Doyle gave evidence regarding his having seen a birthmark under Grey’s left knee corresponding to the one stated in the description of Crouch. Sheaves df documents were produced.
Mr Finlay, for the accused, raised the question of whether the depositions established the charge against Crouch. The' Magistrate said he considered that a prima facie case had been made out, and he would make an order for I' cftiiifhittinl, with a ■provision. I '' that: the ".acmiked -eould not be jremoyedbfiofru the country .for fifteen days, so. that hp would obtain Habeas Corpus from the Supreme Court if he wanted to.Counsel protested, on the ground of tne short time at his disposal to prepare a difficult case, hut the Magistrate adhered to his decision. ‘ '
