(By Telegrapn— Per Press Association.) THE COUNCIL. WELLINGTON, October 30. The Legislative Council met yesterday. ■ The 'Land and fftcome Tax Bill received from the House was read a first time. The debate on the second reading of the Land and Income Tax Amendment Bill-was adjourned. THE HOUSE. The House of Representatives met at 2.30 p.m. Amendments of the Legislative Council to the Marriage Amendment Bill (Mr H. G. R. Mason) were accepted. The Divorce and Matrimonial Causes Amendment Bill (Mr W. Barnard) was introduced and read a first time. Reports were received from the Local Bills Committee recommending that the Urban Farm Lands Eating Bill and Otaki Borough Farm Lands Rating Bill should not be proceeded with. The Customs Amendment Bill was introduced by Governor-General's message, put through all stages and jessed. An amendment was moved by Mr Coates during the second reading that on the assumption that additional revenue was required from Customs taxation, such revenue should be obtained from taxation of luxury items, particularly of foreign origin, and not of articles affecting the cost of living and production. The amendment was rejected by, 43 to 23. The House rose at 2.5 a^.m.
