LAKE KANIERI BOAT CLUB REGATTA
1 The. first Regatta of the season:, was held at Lake Kanieri yesterday afternoon and a very large crowd assembled to witness the contests. v ery keen competition took place between the outboards while very interesting flatty j races took place at intervals throughout the afternoon. Altogether ten outboards participated, including boats from Christchurch and Westport. The results of tlie day’s racing are as follows: Lake Kanieri Championship for L.V.A. Cup, distance 2 miles. Five boats entered for this event, all finishing in the following order.—Pit-a-Pat' (J. N. Robinson), time 4.41 3-s'; Miss, Evinrude (L. Gooch), 4.43 3-s;' Burr (L. McMillan),. 6.4. 4-5; So-Long (L. McMullan), 6.41 1-5; Nuff Sed (A.' W. Penrose) 6.50. 'The Pif-a-Pat a'ncl Miss .Evinrude crossed the line together, the Miss Evinrude establishing a lead before the first buoy was reached. During the last half of the first lap and during the last lap, however, she was ■'overtaken by the Pit-a-Pat, both boats finishing within two . seconds of each other. The So Long and Nuff Sed made had starts and keen competition took place between . these two boats throughout the race. The L.V.A. Cup goes to Pit-a-Pat (J. N, Robinson), while the Visitors’ Cup for the fastest visiting competitor goes to Burr (L. McMillan). . v . “ B ” Claty Championship (distance 2 miles). —Eight boats entered and finished in the following order: —Burr (L. Millan), Playmate (F. Andrews), Nuff Sed (A. W. Penrose), So Long (L. McMillan), Buzz-offi (A. Chapman), Dead Slow (F. Andrews), Cheerio (W. O’Brien), Checkmate (F. Gardyne). The Cheerio made a had start, leaving | the starting point late. The trophy for the first plqce goes to Burr (L. McMillan), while the second prise for the visiting competitor goes to Nuff Sed (A. W. Penrose). Westland Handicap, for Mclntosh Cup, distance 12 miles, in four heats of 3 miles each. Ten boats entered this contest which occupied the greater part of the afternoon. The following are the final results of the four heats— Dead ‘-Slow (F. Andrews), 1392 points, So Long (L. McMillan) 1227, Burr (L. McMillan) 1062, Cheerio (W. O’Brien) 1009, Playmate (F. Andrews) 995, Pit-a-Pat (J. N. Robinson) 928, Checkmate (F. Gardyne) Sed (A. W. l'enrose) 852, Buzz Off (A. Chapman) 656, Miss Evinrude (L. Gooch) J 96. The Mclntosh Challenge Cup goes to Dead Slow (F. Andrews),- while the Burns’ Cup goes to So Long (L. McMil- | lan), who gained second place. . Open Handicap.—This was the final event of the day. Ten boats entered this - race, nine starting. The beats finished in the following order: —Dead Slow (F. Andrews), So Long (L. McMillan), Playmate (F. Andrews), Burr (L. McMillan), Cheerio (W. O’Brien), Nuff Sed (A. W. Penrose), Checkmate (F, Gardyne), Pit-a-Pat (J. N. Robinson). Miss Evinrude started hut developed engine, trouble in the early part of the race and failed to finish. The trophy for first place goes to Dead Slow (F. Andrews), while the second-prize goes to So Long (L. McMillan). The speed medal for the fastest time round the' Lake Kanieri course which is at present held by Pit-a-Pat (Mr J. N. Robinson) is retained by the present holder who again made the fastest time round the- course during yesterday’s regatta. FLATTY R ACES. Quite a large number of entries were received for the ; flatty races, which were well contested and provided some ic-lose finishes.
