At tli'e International 'Mari Dime C'onfei erne, We plenary session dec-iced, by 70 votes to 22, that Air Ben Tillet’s nomination as a British wcrke:s delegate was valid .The minority consisted of shipowners. BEN TILLM’S STRICTURES. AT SHIPPING CONFERENCE. : (Received this day at 10 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 24. The “Times” Geneva correspondent writes: “British shipowners behaved in a most cowardly, unpatriotic and un-British manner,” declared Ben Tillett, replying to speakers who disputed his light to speak on behalf of British seamen at the Maritime Conference, He added that he had been intimately associated with British shipping for fifty-five years. British shipowners used to tell the seamen and dockers to . “scorn the foreign yoke,” ..ut here they were scorning it by putting in on the neck. Belgian Shipowners’ delegate: They should come here themselves and fight out their grievances like Britishers, not cowards, which they have actually done.
The Conference approved of Tillet’s credentials by 70 to 22.
