Thieves entered Lord Baden,Powell’s Paxhill, Hampshire residence, and removed presentation plate worth £3OO, including valuable cups and the model or a machine gun with which he derended Mafeking, presented to him by the people of Matabeleland. Lord Baden Powell, is very distressed but admired the .cleverness of the thieves.
AGFHAN ATROCITIES. (Received this day at noon.) LONDON, Oct, 23. The “Daily Mail’s” Peshawar correspondent states that protest meetings were held at Kabiil condemning Habibullah’s cruelties. It has now been established that Ali Ahmedi, Amanullah’s brother-in-law, was blown to pieces from a gun and hundreds of people were killed secretly within the citadel. Some were dismembered and hanged downwards. Many were dragged behind fast moving cars and prisoners were killed wholesale. DIVIDEND DECLARED LONDON, Oct.. 23. Tlie New Zealand and Australian Land Coy. declared a final dividend of four per cent., making 8 per cent, for the year.
