HOKITIKA TENNIS CLUB

4' i ’ The annual meeting of members was held in* the County Chambers on Friday last, Mr E. Partridge presiding over an attendance of 19 members. The minutes of# the last annual meeting were read and confirmed. ANNUAL. REPORT.'

Grounds:—The usual attendance was given these prior to the commencement of the season, and the courts marked out. Opening Day:—Owing to wet weather the opening day was postponed from November 3rd till November 10th. In the morning a junior tournament was ( held, and 'in the afternoon the usual senior tournament. There were a number of visitors from other clubs. Matches:— A team—Matches were played with Grey mouth A’s at Hokitika and '.Grey mou.th 'respectively, and with United at Hokitika. B team—-Matches wrjre playiqd with Greymouth B team at Hokitika and Greymouth respectively; with Kokatahi at Kokatahi and Hokitika respectively; with AH Skints. and with Runanga Club at Hokitika. Membership:—The membership for last season was: Men 35, Ladies 43, Juniors 20. Lease-.—A new lease is being prepared for the grounds, which will be completed as soon as possible. Finance:—The club at the beginning of the season had a. deficit of £26 13s 5d represented by rent in arrears £7 JOs and a bank overdraft of £l9 3s sd. '* T6-day we have no liabilities and a cash credit of £sl 10s fid in the, Hokitika Savings Bank. At the instigation of your auditor £2s—the average cost of courts maintenance over a period of years—has been charged against revenue, and £so—against revenue for courts replacement. In view of the club s having no right to compensation for improvements at the expiration of the present lease, your auditor considers that it will be necessary for each successive membership to contribute approximately £SO out of each year’s revenue to provide new courts elsewhere should the lease not be renewed on expiration. The thanks of the club is- due to the ladies who have provided afternoon tea during the year and to the donors of trophies. The balance sheet showed receipts £147 14s lOd and payments £96 4s lod a credit balance of £SO Is 4d being shown.

The report and balance sheet were received and adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers resulted as follows: President—Dr B. Baird. Vice-President—Mr E. Partridge. Captain—Mr P. Dougherty. Secretary—-Mr L. Michel. Assistant Secretary—Mr Hayward. Auditor—Mr H. T. Cooke. Committee—Misses Moore and Davidson, Mrs Guthrey, Messrs Perry and. Guthrey. The following new members were elected:—Messrs P. Renton, R. Bulpin, p. Blank, H. Thiele, R. Nightingale, G. Park, L. Larcombe, Dr Haves, Misses Musgrove, Varcoe, Brown, Mrs Landall, and juniors, Misses P. Dow-, ell, W. Wright and Messrs J. Andrews and L. Cederihan. It was resolved that vacancies in membership occurring after closing day be dealt with at the following annual meeting, the waiting list to be posted in the pavilion. It was resolved that the senior membership be limited to 80, 40 each ladies and men, and that the. alteration be effected in the membership of ladies to 40 as vacancies occur, and the acceptance of further men members in the order in which their names appear on the waiting list. A vote of thanks was passed to Miss Moore and Mr Partridge, for their successful conduct of matches.
