The film Scene of a last-minute pardon was outri Called when two notorious bandits Jositch; arid Mitchitch were pardoned actually at. the foot of the gallows, where* their-leader, Ivan Odobasitch, they were awaiting execution. The Judge who had to preside over the executions had just taken his seat and given orders to the prisoners to mount the gallows when a telegram was handed to him and he read out the decision of King Alexander to hang Odobastich and commute the sentence oti Jositch to life and Mitchitch to twenty years. When pardoned the men dropped to their knees crying “Long live the King/’ Odobitch watched : his comrades snatched from execution in, perfect calmness. ' Turning to the hangman,, who was dressed in the traditional, top hat and frock coat, he said: “Give irie a cigarette. I am ready for you.” He wps hanged before the eyes of his pardoned accomplices.
