CANTERBURY EDUCATION BOARD.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 18th. The Canterbury Education Board met at Christchurch. Present: Messrs R. Wild (chairman), W. A. Banks, J. W. Preen, G. AV. Armitage, W. H. Windsor, J. G. Gow, E. H. Andrews, C. S. Thompson, AY. Johnson and H. J. Bignell. ' - . . Appointments . confirmed included : Hatters, Mrs- M. C. Fitzgibbon (sole teacher); Taylorville, Miss M. E. Knowles (infant mistress).
Resignations accepted included— Goldsborough, Mrs M. T. AVright ; Wainihipihi, Miss M. E’. Knowles. ' A renewed proposal was received for the conveyance of Upper Kokatahi pupils to the Lower solved that steps he taken to put the proposal into effect, the contract price being Is per day per pupil, of which sum 2d is to be found locally.
The Senior Inspector reported that if sufficient number of pupils would be available he would recommend the establishment of a district high school at New Brighton. It was resolved to transmit the tion to the Council of Education; A circular was received from the Dboartment regarding terms and vacations for next year, and it was resolved that the following terms be fixed: First term, February .3rd. to May 9th; second .term. May 26th to August 22nd; third term, September 9th to December 19th.
A letter was received from the Thmanga Cominittee protesting against frequent changes in the teaching staff. Tt was resolved to express regret that the Board could not prevent the changes complained of. Leave of absence was granted M>s r C. Bourke, Grevmouth, 3 months (illness); Mrs M. Bale, Hokitika, foi 1 night (child’s illness); Jacksons, Mr ]?. yernon, fortnight (illness). The Taylorville Committee wrote thanking the Board for proceeding
with the erection of a partition in the scnool. The foreman’s report ,for the month was received and adopted. An application is t<j’,be forwarded to the Department for a grant for the erection of a partition (accordion doors) in the infant room at the school at Runanga. „ ' ry, ') Tie -report of the Truant Officer, West Coast (W. D. Mackay) on activities during the month was received.
