RACIAL ANTIPATHY
OVER POLITICAL MURDER SENTENCE. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). BELGRADE, October 17. Anti-Italian feeling is running high in Jugo iSlavia, on account of a death sentence being passed at Pola upon Valdimir: Gortan, who is alleged to have ambushed and fired on voters during an election in Piscimo district, in Istria, killing one voter, and wounding several others. Like his companions, who were sentenced to long terms of imprisonment, Gortan, though a Jugo-Slav-ian, is an Italian subject under the peace treaties. The Court ordered him to be shot through the back as a traitor. The Public Prosecutor stated that no distinction ■ could be drawn between native Italians and those who had joined the Italian family since the Great War. The police have broken up several demonstrations here. A crowd threatened the ■ Italian Consulate at Zagreb, which is strongly guarded. Many arrests have bqen made.
