VITRIOL THROWING
A DASTARDLY CRIME. (United Press Association—By ElectricTelegraph.—Copyright.) (Received this dav at 9. a.rn.) PARIS, October 15. The Assize Court is sitting at Albi hearing an extraordinary case of vitriol throwing, involving persons of wealth and standing. It is alleged an attack was deliberately planned to get rid of the victim, Madame Rolland, a pretty woman who survived terrible injuries to her face, but was shockingly disfigured and last an eye.
A friend, Sylvain Gleizes, driving her in his motor car overtook a lorry on a deserted part of the road. The driver asked for assistance and Rolland and Gleizes got out. Suddenly the former screamed in agony as a quantity of corrosive fluid had been dashed in her face. The lorry there upon drove off The police were suspicious when they learned that Gleizes had taken a long time to find a hospital. Finally a witness said she heard Gleizes and Rof land’s exlover, known as Aubes the Terror, arranging to pay seven hundred thousand francs to two rascals to put her out of the way, by throwing v'itrol in her face. Both were concerned in murderous acts years ago. The trial has created a tremendous sensation.
