STEAMER AFIRE

A TERRIFIC EXPLOSION. (United Press Association —By ElectricTelegraph.—Copyright.) (Received this day at 10 a.m.) LONDON, October 10.

There was an awe-inspiring spectacle at Liverpool when the French steamer Oklahoma, loaded with cotton, nitrate, and sugar, caught fire. There were a series of terrific explosions which broke her back and as she was sinking with a rush, a solid wall of flame rose two hundred feet high. Flying debris damaged the deck fittings of the Buteshire, which was loading for Australia. The Buteshire herself was momentarily in danger, but the crew averted a fire.
