BANDITS HOLD TRAIN.
• PARIS August 26. Two armed and masked bandits wearing black gloves help up the guard o'fi the Riveiera express train from Ventimill, near the Italian frontier, to Paris, due here at 8.15 this morning, between Lyons and Macon. ‘ The guard states that he was sitting in his van just behind the engine when he heard the command “Hands up!” He tujrried around and found himself looking into the muzzles of two revolvers.
One of the men, he says, bound him and then opened the mail-bags. It seemed certain that the bandits would get away with the rich haul when the train stopped, the driver having discovered that something was wrong with the engine. The bandits escaped without waiting to take anything.
