SHEARER’S ACTIVITIES
STATEMENT BY lION BRIDGEMAN (United Press Association—-By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). LONDON, Oct. 14. Hon Bridgeman has written an important letter to the “Times” in connection with Mr Shearer’s Geneva activities describing as “gross misrepresentation of our objects, with the obvious of stirring up ' ill-feeling England.” ? Re recalls an inci-
uont in which his statement that Bri
tain did not intend to dispute United ■ States’ claim for parity, was obviously misrepresented. Bridgeman then became aware of Shearer’s activities. Shearer, he discovered, had obtained a press ticket to enter meetings and was said to be distributing widely violent attacks on the British policy and good faith, and monstrous mis-statements concerning the actual proposals. Bridgeman expressed surprise that Shearer was given a press ticket, but could do nothing beyond refuse to admit him to further press conferences. “I am thankful Mr Hoover has taken action. I only wish it had been .possible before the close of the Geneva 1927 Conference. It would then have been clear as now, that Britain had'no intention of building in comjpetitibn with United States.” '
