RUGBY, October 8.

The .Government gave a lunch today in honour of M. Madgenru, Rumanian Minister of Industry and Commerce, who is visiting London. Mr Philip Snowden, Chancellor of the-Exchequer^proposirig-Hihe health of M Madgearu. conveyed the condolences of the Government on the death of M. Buzdugan, a distinguished member of the Rumanian Regency Council. Hei expressed the satisfaction that he felt that Anglo-Ruman-ian relations were so cordial. He said that one of the matters on which the new Rumanian Government war to be congratulated was its treatment of the minorities question during the last nine months, especially in the matter of the toleration of minoritv languages and the .encouiragement of Minority schools. The British Gov eminent were most pleased with the ready response made by the Rurnanian Government to their overture' for a commercial treaty. They’ had noted with satisfaction the prompf manner in which the new Rumanian Government had repealed the old mining law, and brought a new one into being without delay Referring to the conclusion lasi February of the, seven per cent loan ,to Rumania, Mr Snowden expressed gratification with the promise contained in the prospectus that tie countries participating in the loan Would share proportionately in orders from Rumania. The British Government hoped to see even further expansion of (British exports to Rumania.

M. Madgearu, in his reply, dwelt upon Rumania’s internal development mentioning the introduction of absolute equality of treatment for foreign and national capital. Rumania he said, greeted with pleasure the new interest which British capital was taking in the construction ol roads, canals and oil pipe lines, and in electrification in Rumania.
