At the Reading murder inquest Drew’s counsel, Mr Whlttinstaß, produced a new witness, who in his evidence said thait he saw a strange man in the neighbourhood of the crime. It was not Drew. He had made a statement regarding this to the police at the .time. The Coroner called for this statement.

The foreman of the jury announced the evidence was too conflicting to permit them to definitely establish the guilt. The verdict was cheered inside and outside the court. The jury was two and three-quar-ter hours considering the verdict. There were remarkable demonstrations in the crowded court where Drew was acclaimed a hero, and also in the streets where a crowd of four ‘-honsand arcamp r| nied him to an hotel and listened to a fervid speech from the balcony. Drew said: “The Above (hero he almost broke down! like myself, knows I had nothing to do with this crime. From the bottom of my heart and on behalf of Mr and Mrs Lindo I thank you.” When Drew retired, Mrs Lindo came to the front of the balcony and threw kisses to the crowd, and thank, ad them in broken phrases, until Drew returned and kissed her lips (amid cheers!. The Lin.dos say there is a possibility of their appearance in “Monster.”

Drew said, “I do.not .want a holiday. I would like to appear in “Mjonster” to-night. When I do 1 shall act as never before.”
