AN AMALGAMATION

LABOUR AND IMMIGRATION DEPARTMENTS. WELLINGTON, Oct, 7. Cabinet has decided to amalgamate the Departments of Labour and Immigration. In making an announcement to this effect the Minister of Labour stated that until a short time ago numbers of young people from the Old Country were being brought into New Zealand and placed among farmers for employment by the Department of Immigration. The Government bad now decided to merge the Irmriieration Department with the Labour Department and to utilise the organisation of the former to distribute employment op farms. It was well tyiown the Minister added, that the Immigration Department was not now bringing, any young people ipto the Dominion from overseas for the purpose - referred to.
