SPECTACULAR FIRE
AT DUNEDIN FACTORY. (By Telegraph—Press Association). DUNEDIN, Oct. 8. A spectacular fire in the warehouse of A. E. Uusherwood and Co., on th» foreshore, resulted in several thousand pounds worth of damage to the building and stock this afternoon. The premises were used for the manufacture of wool-branding fluid, and on the top floor there were three 40 gallon vats s>f fluid boiling. An unaccountable explosion occurred in one, and set fire to the others. The inflammable materials, 'such as resin, tallow and turpentine, pr.-vcU excellent fuel, and the fire was raging fiercely before the brigade arrived. The whole top floor was gutted, but the brigade were successful in keeping the fire from the ground floor, where more inflammables were stowed. An exact estimate of the damage cannot be given yet. nor are insurances on the stock available. The building was covered in the United Office for £SOOO. and the stock insured in the same office.
