SERIOUS CHARGE. [By Telegraph, Per Press Association.] HAWERA, October 9. Charged with having committed an unnatural offence on a male juvenile at Tongahohe Beach on August 6th, Laurence James Sales, aged iw, single, appeared before Justices this morning and was remanded for a week, fhc police stating further charges were pending. Bail was fixed at £2OO personal, with a surety of £IOO.
VICE-REGAL VISIT. BLENHEIM, October 9
The Governor-General and Lady Alice Fergusson arrived at Blenheim last night on a farewell tour of the Dominion.
En route from Havelock the ViceRegal car (found an obstruction on the line at Okaramio. School-children stretched a rope of ent\vined native grass across the highway and brought the car to a halt. The ingenious young highwaymen induced their F <- cellencies to alight and listen to an address from the Chairman of the School Committee. Sir Charles acknowledged the felicitations and a small pupil presented Lady Alice with a bouquet of native clematis, which particularly pleased her Excellency. This morning the party are out on a tour of the various schools.
BREAKING AND ENTERING WELLINGTON, Oct. 9,
Lawrence Desmond Tanner, aged 20. George Albert Proudfoot, aged 23, room-mates, were jointly chargecT with breaking and entering a shop and stealing cigarettes and tobacco valued at £5 8s 4d; and Tanner with breaking and entering two business premises with attempt at theft, and with being found without lawful excuse in possession of house-breaking instruments. The charges arose out of Tanner being found at night inside the door of V o rk Chambers, Manners St., by a constable who noticed it open. Tanner pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence, He said Proudfoot had never actually assisted in the offences. The latter who pleaded not guilty was committed for trial.
AIR TRIP DELAYED. WELLINGTON, Oct, 9. Unsettled weather conditions made it inadvisable for the Auckland aeroplanes to commence the homeward journey. They leave at 9 o’clock tomorrow morning, adhering to the original programme.
