FIVE POWER CONFERENCE
INVITATION TO DOMINION. OTHER VIEWPOINTS. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyrights (Received this day at 11 25. a.m.) LONDON, October 8.
The text of the documents relating to the Five Power Conference was communicated To Mr S. M. Bruce and Sir J. G. Ward several days ago. An invitation will he sent to them to attend the conference, but it may be a matter of a few days or perhaps longer.
j It is stated there is some anxiety as to whether France and Italy will question the basis of parity, especially hi relation to their needs for light cruisers. Similarly a thorny problem may arise in connection with Anglo-Ameri-can desires to abolish submarines, which France regards as her best line of defence for the adjacent colonies. There can also he detected a strong under-cufrent of suspicion among European conscript countries over the recent revival at Geneva of the question of trained reserves. Mr Henderson’s invitation to European powers to indicate the subjects they think should he discussed, is regarded as the quickest way of discovering the touchy patches the conference is likely to encounter, lhere is a marked tendency in the Italian press to assume a desire 'to impose an AngloSaxon policy on Europe. The Fascist organ “11. Tevere ” is conical at the expense of Britain’s desire to join ;ke orbit of America’s new western imperialism, which is wrapped up with humanitarian principles,'animated by the conception that it is called on to fulfil a . divine mission of materialistic, idealistic redemption.
