WORLD’S CHAMPIONSHIP EKLUND BEATS VANCE. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Oct. 7. A wrestling contest for the lightneavyweight championship of the world between Clarence Eklund, of Wyoming, holder of the title, and Farmer Vance, light-heavyweight champion of Canada, ended in the 7th. round, Eklund winning by two falls to
Vance’s impetuousness undoubtedly cost him the. title. He secured a fall in the fifth round after making the champion groggy with Deadlocks. Again in the sixth round Eklund was groggy and as he lay on the mat Vance leapt in the air and dived on him. Eklund moved slightly aside and Vance landed on liis head. He lay motionless, and was easily pinned. Eklund walked unsteadily to his corner, while Vance had to he carried to his. Despite the use of much cold water and massage. Vance could scarcely stand when the gong sounded for the 7th. and he was an easy prey for the champion. The ending was very disappointing to the large crowd, with whom Vance was easilv favourite.
Eklund weighed 12.6 and Vance 12.4. Tom Alley meets the undefeated Naranjan Singh next Monday night.
