FOOTBALL
WESTLAND SUB-UNION. MONDAY, OCT. 7th. The executive met at Bp.m. Present : Messrs H. M. Coulson (Chairman), Dowell, McDonald, Cutbush, williamson, McManaway, Stafford, McGregor, Breeze and Heenan. A challenge was received from Inangalnla Sub-Union for a game for the Dittman Shield, to be played at Hokitika on Saturday next.—Received. After discussion it was resolved that if the rules permit of a challenge coming in during October that the SubUnion accept the challenge, the date set down to be Saturday next, Oct. 12th. Mr McDonald presented a balance sheet of the benefit match showing, a credit of £6 15s Gd. —Received with thanks.
The District High School was granted permission to travel to Reefton on Saturday. The Chairman stated the Sergeant of Police had reported unfavourably on the conduct of visiting footballers on Oct. sth. The Unairman moved that the Buller Rugby Union be written to, pointing out the conduct of players of the Westport Football Club, and that the Buller Union be asked to arrange for future visiting teams to travel under proper control. —Seconded by Mr Williamson and carried. Tt was resolved to ask the West Coast Rugby Union to supply a copy of the Shield rules and also competition rules.
Messrs McManaway, Cutbush, Williamson, and Henan were nominated for selection as referee for the shield amtcii if it eventuates.
