TUESDAY, OCTOBER Bth, 1929. SECONDARY HIGHWAYS. Overseer Millner reports as follows: —I have the honour to report upon the progress of works during the month of September. Lake Kanieri Road.—Repairs were effected to ruts, depressions and motorworn holes between Kanieri and Lake Kanieri, a distance of eight and threequarter miles. Water-tables were cleaned and deepened over a distance of four hundred links. Encroaching gorse and blackberry growth was cleared for n distance of four hundred and fifty links. The power grader was engaged lightly grading and resurfacing the road over a distance of three miles. The straightening and widening of the narrow portion of road beyond the one mile peg was extended to the nine chain peg and improvements to the curve within thirty-five chains of Lake Kanieri were almost completed. The total amount of material used in repairs to motor holes was 102 cubic yards of gravel while lo7i cubic yards of dredge screenings were used in widening beyond the one mile peg, and 30 cubic yards of gravel used in improving the. curves. The total quantity was 239 J cubic yards. Lower Kokatahi-MuArthur Rond.— Lower Kokatahi Road was repaired over a distance of eight miles, 111 cubic yards of gravel being used for the purpose, also re-surfaced with a light coat of fine gravel a distance of forty chains which absorbed 70 cubic yards. Blackberry growth was cleared from the roadside, and from the road drains a distance of 15 chains. The renewal of decking, railing, and traffic planking on Graham’s Creek bridge (25 feet span) was completed and 8/16 Bx 4 planks removed and renewed on Kokatahi River bridge, a total quantity of 256 superficial feet of rimu heart timber. .■'
