PRINCESS ROYAL, (British Official Wireless.) LONDON, October (3. The Princess Royal was carried 011 a stretcher and entrained for London. PRINCESS ROYAL’S CONDITION (Received this day at 12.25. p.m.‘. RUGBY, Oct. 6. Improvement in the Princess Royal is maintained, and her Royal Highness was able to leave Braemar last night for her residence in London. The Princess travelled by motor ambulance to Ballater Station. On arrival by train at Aberdeen, it was stated she was comfortable. The Royal coaches, in which she and her attendants travelled, were attached to the London train at Aberdeen. On arrival at London a bulletin was issued which stated her Royal Highness was not unduly fatigued by the journey. nKH COMMISSIONER FOR IRAQ. RUGBY, Oct. 6. The King has approved of the appointment of Sir Francis Henry Humphreys to be Higli Commissioner for Iraq in succession to the late Sir Gilbert Clayton. Humphreys, until recently, was British Minister at Kabul. It will be recalled he was the last British subject to leave Kabul'by aeroplane on February 25th. when he arrived at Peshwar with the Union Jack of the Legation, under his arm. Ho had previously organised, in concert with the Royal Air Force, the evacuation by air of British and foreign residents in Kabul. The spirit in which he confronted the perils and responsibilities imposed upon him bv the Afghan revolution, during which the Legation was isolated and subjected to heavy fire, was the subject, of many tributes including one by Sir Austen Chamberlain, who in the House of Commons, expressed the admiration of the. Government “For courage and fortitude which Humphreys and his staff displayed in circumstances of great difficulty and danger.” • . ' . ~;
