SENSATIONAL SCENE
AT LABOUR CONFERENCE
(United Prow Association —By Electric > Telegraph—-^Copyright).
LONDON, October 3
The only other sensation alb the Labour Conference was the revival of suffragette methods in the interests of the Communists. Directly Rt. Hon. J. R. Clyes entered, two young women, dressed in black, rose in the gallery and screamed: ‘ Down with Clynes, the prosecutor ! Release the Indian prisoners! ” The stewards were surprised to find that both of the young women were securely padlocked to the railings, and it took a quarter of an hour to sever their chains. The women all the time continued their shrieking. Finally .they were carried out, struggling wildly. One of them was bleeding. A number of extremist delegates angrily made a scene, protesting against the harshness and the cruelty of the stewards, so that another quarter of an hour was lost before the business could be resumed. Thei j Chairman, Mr Morrison, condemned the male Communists for sending women to do this “rough-and-tumble” job, and for putting their women into the firing line, instead of coming themselves. At the; election of officers, Sir Oswald Moseley, M.P., and Miss Ellen Wilkinson, M.P., .lost their seats on the National Executive.
