A remarkable feat was accomplished by Mrs Joan Chetwynd, who driving a Lea Francis car ,covered 996 miles in twelve hours at an average speed of 82.97 -miles .an hour, on the Brooklands track yesterday. This beats the record held by Mrs Urquhart Dykes, who made an average speed of 81.3 mile san hour for 12 huu/», During the first three hours Mrs Chetwynd averaged 86.5 miles an hour, but the last part of- the drive took place in heavy rain and bad light.
