SUICIDE ATTEMPT

TEACHERS SAVE A MAN. (By Telegraph—Press Association). AUCKLAND, Sept. 25. An overpowering smell of gas attracted the attention of two lady teachers at Curran Street School this morning. They found a man sitting near the gas ring in the teachers’ room, with a rug over his head. One of the teachers promptly turned off the gas. The rug was torn off the man’s nead, and first aid was given. The headmaster was sent ror. The man gradually began to revive and he was induced to lie down while tne police were sent for. Two constables went to the school and took the man away. His name is Dannefard, and his age abut 40 years. Tlie man had been working at the school while the janitor was away ill. At 8.10 this morning he was seen near the gas ring, and one of the teachers then noticed a slight smell of gas. As it was thought by the teacher that the man was a plumber, no particular notice was then taken.
