PROCEEDINGS RESUMED. (By Telegraph—Press Association). . DUNEDIN, September 26. Proceedings were resumed in the. Police Court in the charge against George Victor Harris, master of the City of Lincoln, who was prosecuted in a sequel to an accident which occurred to three, watersiders, when the ship was being unloaded at Wellington on September 16th, through placing a load of three tons on a hook which safe working load was 15cwt. The charges had been amended by the Crown. The defendant stated the ship provided gear suitable for discharge of any cargo, and before this case nas unloaded those working it should have gone to the ship’s officer for the gear. The Chief Officer stated the gear was rigged at the stevedores request the permanent gear being too slow for the. light cargo. Witness had instructed that no more than two cases of tobacco were to bt lifted with the cargo.

The Magistrate said tlie master must be absolved in regard to lifting too heavy a weight, but must -he convicted on the minor breach in using unstamped gear. He was fined £2 and costs. Witness expenses were disallowed, because the case should have been heard in Wellington.
