COAST MINING AREAS
COMMENT ON CRITICISM

CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 24
Commenting on statements concerning the conditions in Westland mining areas, Reverend R. M. Ryburn, a well-known Presbyterian said: “Mr Gilbert made a mistake. The least said about it the better.”
Another Christchurch Minister, who spent ten years in Duller said: “A miner’s job is difficult. Mining townships are not garden cities. All things considered, the religion of the miner is as good as the religion -of the average man.”. : He characterised the statements in regard to Sunday drinking as an exaggeration.
