In announcing the result, Dr Jarman stated that this was a very enjoyable section, in which he had a really good time. All of the recalled competitors might easily be prize-takers at this or any other festival. ' There 'was, of course, a varied assortment> of songs selected, but the section brought forward quite a lot of fine music. He had had to do a most exceptional thing, inasmuch as he had had to bracket two competitors for the first place and two for third place. Miss Sligo’s choice of song suited her well. A little variety in tempo would add to the effectiveness of the rendering. The staccato phrases were remarkably well done, and she gave a nicely-interpreted rendring of a difficult choice. The quality of Miss Docherty’s voice was heard to advantage in this item. She should make more of sibilants. Artistic use was made of portamento and she gave a charming interpretation. Miss Wilkie had a voice of beautiful quality, but there was an occasional forcing down of intouat.on. She displayed excedenf interpretation and -expression. Miss Bald’s choice was not a very attractive one though the music was fine. Her interpretation was most artistic but she showed a tendency towards 'unequal tone in ascending intervals. Her enunciation was excellent. Miss Myers had a voice of delightful quality, but there was a tendency to over breath pressure, which induced vibrato. Her in.leipretation was nicely art.Stic, and she made a beautiful- ending. The words were not alwavs clear.
