AN EARTHQUAKE
LOCATED IN COOK STRAIT.

WELLINGTON, Sept. 24. At 2.22 a.m., a 'sharp earthquake occurred, waking many people. The seismograph indicates a local origin, probably Cook Strait, seventy or eighty miles from .Wellington.
