Veterinary opinion regarding Limerick is not reassuring. The champion is considered unlikely to race again. His absence from Randwick' will rob the Weight for Age events there of much interest. Trainer .Tones is hopeful that Limqrick will race again, (but he is by no means confident that the gelding has not reached the end of his career. A veterinary surgeon stated that the horse was in great pain after, the race. It had broken down a suspensory ligament of the foreleg, which was highly inflamed. An official report said the ligament was broken and this was responsible for the assumption that it would be useless attempting to train Limerick again. Nightmareh has a slight swelling near the knee, but this is unlikely to interfere with his preparation.
