DRUNKEN DRIVER, [By Telegraph, Per Press Association.] ASHBURTON, September 23. Before Justices, Arthur William Wallace. Smith, aged 23, of Done' was fined £lO for being intoxicated while in charge of a car at the racecourse on Saturday.and £o for-driving a car equipped with inefficient brakes, in default one month’s gaol, . 310-RE ARSON. ’ CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 23. While a social was in progress at Addington school on Saturday evening, an attempt was made to burn down the school’s swimming pavilion. After the outbreak was extinguished it was discovered that the walls of the dressing sheds had been’ sprayed with kerosene, while a sack and some sheets of newspaper and rubbish all saturated with kerosene had been placed under a seat and set* on fire. The , damage was slight.
AIALICIOUS FIRE ALARMS. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept, 23. , Four malicious false ala'rms of fire were made "from the suburbs yesterday, the Fire Brigade being called out on each occasion. Three of the alarms were raised from street boxes and in the fourth case a woman summoned the Brigade by a telephone call. AN ACCIDENT. TE AROHA, Sept. 23. Arthur Pilkington. while riding a race bicycle at ’Waitoa yesterday, collided with a motor car, driven by Pradlock, of Hamilton. Pilkington’s right arm and colla/rbohe were broken. BREAKING AND ENTERING. AUCKLAND, Sept. 23. As a sequel to a capture by the police on Saturday night, a labourer named Leslie Robert Ashfield, and a seaman named Charles Giboin, were charged at the Police Court with breaking and entering. It was stated that as the result of their arrest, the police hoped ,to clear up -quite a number of burglaries in the city and suburbs for some time past. ’No less than seven charges of breaking and entering •' would be brought against them. Beth were remanded until September 30th.

The nuns were aroused and got fifty little girls out safely... ‘ v ■ SHOOTING OUT OF SEASON; AUCKLAND, Sept. 20. J. Gould was fined £5 and costs $2 12s for shooting a hen pheasant out of season. The offence took place under Judge Ostler’s window at Remuera on Sunday morning. The Judge is a well-known sportsman. 1
