STERLING slumps
ON NEW YORK MARKET.
[United Press Association.—By Electric lelegraph.— Copyright.) NEW YORK, Sept. 21. Sterling to-day reached -1 dollars SI 19-21 cents for cables. This is the lowest level for the year. NEW YORK, Sept. 21. iStorling has been in a highly unfavourable position for many weeks, and it is believed that it has not been greatly helped by the suspension of trading in London, in Hatry Group shares. TOURING AMERICANS. LEAVE FOR AUSTRALIA. (Received this day at 8.30- a.m!) SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 21. The Malola with 325 sailed to-day on a tour of the Orient and Australia: Mayor Rolph is unable to make the trip, but Robert Lynch (vicePresklent of San Francisco Chamber of Commerce) will manage the tour, it is intended to arrange plans for elaborate entertainments on board the liner, in reciprocating the hospitality shown to the party at ports of call.
A great crowd saw the vessel leave and she was escorted through the Golden Gate by a fleet of harbour craft with whistles blowing and bands playing.
MOTORISTS’ ACCIDENT. SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 21. Sir Gilbert Parker, the British novelist, suffered a broken arm and numerous bruises on Saturday, when an automobile driven by his wife overturned, several miles south of Monterey. Because of his advanced age and poor health, anxiety is felt for Sir Gilbert’s condition, llis wife is uninjured.
