RIP VAN WINKLE

The Hokitika amateurs will make tlieir farewell bow with the comic opera “Rip Van Winkle” at the Princess Theatre on Thursday night. Incidentally, also, it will be the final appearance of. Mrs Staveley, the sole producer, before her departure for North Canterbury. The occasion is ear-marked as a benefit for the Hokitika Fire Brigade, one of our most deserving local institutions. Popular prices are being charged, and judging from the public favour of the performance on the previous occasions, a bumper attendance may be expected. The three-act opera has all the elements of first-class entertainment and w : th the strong caste from local talent, all that is best in the music and dialogue will be brought out. Our local performers certainly achieved a remarkable success in the opera, and the opportunity of seeing them once again is sure to be availed of widely.
