A STRANGER REMOVED. WELLINGTON, September 18. So keenly did a sentiment uttered by Mr E. J. Howard, Labour Member for Christchurch South, appeal to an occupant of the Public Gallery in the House of Representatives this evening that he gave voice to a hearty “ Hear, hear! " “I am glad to have the support olf someone,” said Air Howard. “I do not know who it was.” “ A worker of New Zealand,” replied the stranger vigorously. “ Order, order,” called Air Speaker. “I am sorry, sir. I thought it was someone on the floor of the House,” apologised Air Howard. Two policemen requested the interrupted to withdraw, which lie did unwillingly but quietly, and. the House once more pursued its placid course.
UNIVERSAL HALF-HOLIDAY. A resultless attempt to ascertain when ’the House will have an opportunity of expressing an opinion on the question 'of making Saturday the universal half-lipliday was made by Air AV. E. Barnard (Labour, Napier) in the House of Representatives to-day. In rejily to his question, the Alinister for Labour informed Air Barnard that lie was not in a position to say when the relevant notice of motion on the Order Paper would be dealt with. That was a matter for the decision of the Prime Alinister. “Are you not bringing down a Bill?” enquired Air F. Langstone (Labour, AVaimarino). The Alinister: No. It is a notice of motion which its already on the Order Paper.
