Discussion on the subject of New Zealand’s signature of the Optional Clause of the Statute of the Permanent Court of International Justice followed a question by Mr H. E. Holland (leader of the Labour Party) as to what reservations, if any, were to qualify New. Zealand’s signature. Sir Joseph Ward stated that commu : mentions on the subject were, up to the present confidential, but he hoped to be able to make an announcement to-morrow. The Labour Bills Committee,. reporting on the Unemployed Workers’ Ball, stated tlie measure could not proceed in its present form, but the Committee was of opinion that the Government should take action this session to deal with unemployment insurance.
Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Bill (Hon. Stallworthy) was read a second time. - The House rose at 11.30 p.m. WELLINGTON, September 20. The House of Representatives met at 10.30 a.m. this morning. The Police Department estimate (£461,688) is being discussed in Committee of Supply. Mr T. M. Wilford stated it is intended to add thirty men to the police force of the Dominion.
